Convert AVIF images into losslessly compressed PNG files directly in your browser. PNG is more broadly compatible and works with programs that do not accept AVIF. Your files remain on your device.

PNG stores the decoded pixels without any additional lossy compression.

PNG is preset as the output format and does not need a quality slider.
Download results individually or collect multiple files in a ZIP archive.
LokalPix decodes the AVIF using browser functions and stores the visible image losslessly as PNG.
AVIF uses the AV1 codec for still images and supports transparency through an alpha channel as well as HDR colour spaces.
PNG stores all visible pixel values losslessly. If the AVIF contains transparency, it is carried over to the PNG.
PNG cannot reconstruct detail removed by AV1 compression. Conversion only changes the file format of the existing pixels.
Technical background for choosing the right format.
AVIF uses AV1 techniques such as intra-frame prediction and quantisation for still images. It supports wide colour spaces and high bit depth. Browsers decode AVIF natively via createImageBitmap.
PNG uses lossless DEFLATE compression. It supports transparency through an alpha channel and is compatible almost everywhere.
PNG is more broadly compatible than AVIF and is accepted by most image editors and upload forms.
Earlier AV1 losses remain. HDR information and AVIF-specific metadata are not transferred by default.
Answers about quality, privacy, and format limitations.
Yes. If the AVIF has an alpha channel, it is transferred to the PNG. Check the result for cut-out subjects.
PNG is lossless and is usually larger than AVIF for photographs. Larger does not automatically mean better quality.
No. PNG stores the decoded pixels losslessly but cannot undo AV1 losses.
Yes. LokalPix does not intentionally change the pixel dimensions during this conversion.
Metadata are removed by default. AVIF-specific EXIF data are not transferred to the PNG file.
Yes. Up to 20 files can be processed in one batch and downloaded individually or together as a ZIP archive.
Conversion uses your browser's built-in functions. There is no image upload and no cloud storage.
