Convert BMP images into compact JPG files directly in your browser. BMP files are uncompressed and can be very large — converting to JPG significantly reduces the file size. Your images remain on your device.

BMP files are often far larger than necessary — JPG can reduce the file size dramatically.

LokalPix reads the BMP without compression and encodes the pixels as lossy JPG. File size typically drops significantly.
BMP stores pixel values without compression. A 10-megapixel image as BMP can easily exceed 30 MB.
JPG uses lossy compression and is often 10–30 times smaller than BMP for photographs. The chosen quality affects visible artefacts.
JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in a BMP are placed on a white background.
Technical background on the BMP format and the conversion.
BMP (Windows Bitmap) is an uncompressed raster format. Every pixel value is stored directly. This makes BMP simple to read but results in very large files — especially at high resolutions.
JPG uses the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and reduces image detail that is less noticeable to the human eye. For photographs and natural images, JPG is far more compact at comparable visible quality.
An uncompressed 3840×2160-pixel BMP (24-bit) takes up around 24 MB. A JPG of the same image at 90 % quality is typically under 4 MB.
JPG encoding is lossy. Fine detail and sharp edges may show artefacts. Transparency is removed. Metadata are not transferred by default.
Answers about quality, privacy, and format limitations.
It depends on the image content and JPG quality. Typically a BMP is reduced to 5–15 % of its original size by JPG conversion.
JPG does not support transparency. Transparent pixels receive a white background during export.
90 percent is a practical starting point. Lower it for smaller files; then check fine detail for artefacts.
Yes. LokalPix does not intentionally change the pixel dimensions during this conversion.
Metadata are removed by default. BMP-specific fields are not transferred to the JPG output.
Yes. Up to 20 files can be processed in one batch and downloaded individually or together as a ZIP archive.
