Convert GIF images into losslessly compressed PNG files directly in your browser. Note: for animated GIFs, LokalPix exports only the first frame — the animation is not preserved. Your files remain on your device.

Animated GIFs: only the first frame is saved as PNG.

PNG is preset as the output format. For animated GIFs, only the first frame is exported.

LokalPix decodes the GIF in your browser and stores the visible frame losslessly as PNG. Animations are not preserved.
GIF uses lossy colour palette reduction to a maximum of 256 colours and supports simple frame animations.
PNG stores every pixel losslessly and supports full 24-bit RGB colour depth as well as transparency through an alpha channel.
Animated GIFs consist of multiple frames. LokalPix exports only the first frame as PNG. All other frames and timing data are lost.
Technical background on the GIF format.
GIF uses the LZW algorithm for lossless compression and stores images with a maximum of 256 colours from a palette. Multiple frames enable simple animations with configurable delays and loops.
The GIF specification from the 1980s defined an indexed colour palette. For photographs, palette reduction causes visible colour banding and artefacts. PNG does not have this limitation.
PNG supports full 24-bit RGB colour depth (16 million colours), lossless compression, and an alpha channel for smooth transparency. It is the modern successor for static graphics.
GIF animations are not carried over. Only the first frame is exported. Earlier palette-reduction losses remain — PNG cannot reconstruct them.
Answers about quality, privacy, and format limitations.
Animated GIFs contain multiple frames. LokalPix exports only the first frame as PNG. The animation, additional frames, and timing data are lost.
GIF reduces colours to 256. PNG can render all colours in the first frame as the browser displays them. The result depends on how the browser renders the GIF palette.
Earlier palette-reduction losses from the GIF remain. PNG adds no new losses.
Yes. LokalPix does not intentionally change the pixel dimensions during this conversion.
Metadata are removed by default.
Yes. Up to 20 files can be processed in one batch and downloaded individually or together as a ZIP archive.
Conversion uses your browser's built-in functions. There is no image upload and no cloud storage.
