Select JFIF
Choose one or more JFIF, PJP, or PJPEG files from your device.
Convert JFIF images into losslessly compressed PNG files directly in your browser. This is useful when you want to preserve decoded pixels for further editing without additional compression losses. Your files remain on your device.

PNG stores the decoded pixels without any additional lossy compression.

PNG is preset as the output format and does not need a quality slider.
Download results individually or collect multiple files in a ZIP archive.
LokalPix reads the JFIF image (technically JPEG) in your browser and stores the decoded pixels losslessly as PNG.
JFIF contains JPEG-compressed image data. The image compression is identical to JPG.
PNG stores every decoded pixel value losslessly. For photographs, the PNG file is typically larger than the JFIF.
PNG encoding adds no new losses but cannot reverse earlier JPEG compression artefacts.
Technical background for choosing the right format.
JFIF is a container standard for JPEG image data. The image data itself is encoded with the lossy DCT compression that JPG also uses.
PNG uses lossless DEFLATE compression. It is well suited to screenshots, graphics, and further editing without new compression losses.
PNG must preserve every pixel value losslessly. For photographs this file is therefore much larger than the JFIF, without looking better.
PNG encoding adds no new losses. Earlier JPEG artefacts from the JFIF source remain part of the image. JFIF metadata are not transferred by default.
Answers about quality, privacy, and format limitations.
No. PNG stores the decoded pixels losslessly but cannot repair earlier JPEG losses.
PNG is lossless and is usually larger than JFIF for photographs. Larger does not automatically mean more image detail.
Yes. LokalPix does not intentionally change the pixel dimensions during this conversion.
Metadata are removed by default. JFIF APP0 markers are not transferred to the PNG file.
No. JFIF has no alpha channel. Converting to PNG does not automatically make the background transparent.
Yes. Up to 20 files can be processed in one batch and downloaded individually or together as a ZIP archive.
Conversion uses your browser's built-in functions. There is no image upload and no cloud storage.
