WebP is preselected. Adjust quality to balance file size and image fidelity.

LokalPix decodes the JPG and encodes the visible pixels again as WebP. The output is lossy at the selected quality.
JPG discarded image information during its first encoding. Changing formats cannot recover those details.
WebP uses lossy encoding in this conversion. The selected quality affects file size and visible artefacts.
The result can be smaller, similar in size, or larger than the JPG. The subject, source compression, and selected quality all matter.
Both can store photographs compactly, but their encoders work differently.
JPEG commonly encodes photographs with lossy block-based methods. Lossy WebP uses VP8 techniques including spatial prediction, adaptive quantisation, and entropy coding. LokalPix uses the WebP encoder provided by your browser.
WebP is useful for websites when browser support is available and the actual output is smaller. Before replacing a JPG, compare file size and visible quality using the specific image.
Conversion works with the pixels decoded from the JPG. Existing blocking, colour fringes, and missing detail remain part of the image. WebP cannot reconstruct them.
Another lossy encoding step can alter image detail. JPEG-specific EXIF structures and embedded previews are not transferred by default. The original JPG file cannot be reconstructed bit for bit from the WebP.

Answers about quality, privacy, and format limitations.
No. It depends on image content, the JPG's quality, and the WebP setting. Compare the result for the actual image.
No. Missing detail and existing JPG artefacts remain. WebP encoding may add further artefacts at low quality settings.
90 percent is a practical starting point for visual inspection. A lower value may produce smaller website assets; check fine detail, text, and gradients.
The format supports transparency, but a JPG source has no alpha channel. Conversion does not automatically make the existing background transparent.
Yes. LokalPix does not intentionally change the pixel dimensions during this conversion.
Metadata are removed by default. JPEG EXIF data are not transferred to the WebP output.
Conversion uses your browser's built-in functions. There is no image upload and no cloud storage.
