SCALING

What happens when you resize an image?

LokalPix computes the target dimensions and scales the image on a canvas in your browser.

PIXELS

Absolute target size

Enter the desired width and/or height in pixels. In bounding-box mode, the image is scaled to fit entirely within the specified dimensions.

PERCENT

Relative scaling

Enter a percentage to scale the image proportionally. 50 % halves both edges.

ASPECT RATIO

Proportional scaling

With aspect ratio enabled, both edges are scaled evenly. The image is not distorted.

FORMAT IN DEPTH

Scaling in depth

Technical background on algorithms and limits.

How the browser scales

LokalPix draws the decoded image with drawImage() onto a canvas at the target size. The browser uses bilinear or bicubic interpolation depending on the implementation.

Upscaling protection

With upscaling protection enabled, each edge is silently capped at the original dimensions. This prevents quality loss from enlargement.

Maximum output size

Output is limited to 16,384 pixels per edge and 40 megapixels in total to prevent browser crashes.

Output formats

PNG (lossless, default), JPG (lossy, smaller for photos), and WebP (lossy, often smaller than JPG) are available.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Questions about image resizing

Answers about scaling, formats, and privacy.

Can I disable the aspect ratio lock?

Yes. Deactivate the aspect ratio option and enter width and height independently.

What is upscaling protection?

With protection enabled, the output size is silently capped at the original dimensions. You can enter any target size without accidentally enlarging the image.

Which output format is best?

PNG (lossless) is suitable for graphics and screenshots. JPG and WebP are smaller for photographs but lossy.

Can I resize multiple images at once?

Yes. All images are scaled with the same settings. Up to 20 files per batch.

Are metadata preserved?

Metadata are removed by default.
